The Bail Bondsman

Logline: Working for The Man sucks. Working for this man kills.

Synopsis:
Sean Thomas is about to punch in, but he’s gotta be smart not to get punched out. With an ex that won’t take him back and a job that won’t take him anywhere, Sean orchestrates his own termination at Sunrise Direct with a scathing email targeting the company’s upper management. After a night of drinking, Sean and his roommate Tim are involved in a grisly car crash that leaves the driver of the other vehicle dead and a backpack full of cash and cocaine up for grabs. Resolving a quick moral conflict, Sean urges Tim to flee the scene with the backpack and what amounts to rent money for just about the next ten years. Sean stays and when the cops get to the wreck, he goes straight to jail.

Though the wreck wasn’t his fault, two prior DWI convictions drive Sean’s bail bond through the roof. He prepares himself for an extended vacation behind bars, but a shifty bail bondsman named Obi Modelo comes to his
rescue... on one condition. Sean must work off his bond in the services of Rio Grande Bail Bonds to the satisfaction of Obi.

Two days into his new “job” Sean discovers that he’s just one of a small army of dirty-workers that Obi has recruited from the Travis County jail system with the help of an inside informant at Central Booking. But termination from Rio Grande Bail Bonds means just that: Termination. To make matters worse, Obi has begun asking Sean as to the whereabouts of a
missing backpack containing a large amount of cash. As the events unfold Sean quickly puts it together that it was two of Obi’s “employees” that were to blame for the wreck and that the money in the backpack was intended to pay off one of Obi’s debts. Now, only Sean knows where the backpack is and Obi will stop at nothing to get it back.

At a harrowing pace we slide through the means streets of a Texas underworld that no one knew existed. Where the legal system fails and where the line between corporate and criminal is permanently blurred, Sean, will once again arrange for his unemployment and liberation from the work force for the very last time.
