EXT. OUTSIDE THE COURTYARD - FLASHBACK

DON ANSELMO, 51, runs frantically out of the courtyard.

Three THUGS sit around on the pick-ups parked out front.
From their POV, Don Anselmo runs from around the corner
of the building 200 yards to their left.

In no particular hurry, they gather their rifles. One of
them takes a shot at Anselmo. He misses. The other two
laugh. Another Thug takes a crack and this time Anselmo
                goes down. They CHEER.

Suddenly the flat part of a shovel blade knocks one Thug
right off the bed of the truck. The other two turn to
look and see their comrade face down, a puddle of blood
                forming in the sand.

                UNDER THE TRUCK

A MAN slides deftly to the right.

                UP TOP

One Thug hops down next to his fallen amigo. He's dead.

The other Thug moves to the right side of the truck. The
moment he peers around the hood he's impaled by the blade
                of the shovel.

Hearing a SHRIEK, the remaining Thug goes down on all
fours and looks under the truck. Nothing. He starts to
crawl around the back of the truck when the tailgate
SLAMS down on his head knocking him out cold.

A pair of work boots hit the ground. They belong to OBI
                Modelo, 25, pony-tail and a scraggly goatee.

EXT. SAN MATIAS TEQUILA FACTORY - COURTYARD - SAME

El Dueno glares at Don Rojan for a moment. He takes a
glass of tequila and toasts then downs the shot.

                                      EL DUENO
                          Here's to a happy afterlife.

He levels his gun on Rojan. At that moment, Obi, races
into the courtyard, shovel in hand.

                                      OBI
                          DON ROJAN!

El Dueno turns and spots Obi. He drops the gun to his
side and looks back to Rojan.

                                      EL DUENO
This one of your farmers? Hope he's here
                          to dig graves.

FOOTSTEPS. El Dueno spins around on Jimmy who enters the
courtyard puffing his cigar. He's followed by two THUGS.

                                      JIMMY
                          Don't let me interrupt.

Obi advances toward El Dueno. El Dueno holsters his gun.

                                      EL DUENO
                          You wanna fight me, farmer?

El Dueno produces a butterfly knife and flips it open.

Obi slows to a stop within five feet. The two men circle.

El Dueno swipes and cuts Obi's stomach. El Dueno laughs.

                                      EL DUENO (CONT'D)
I'm gonna carve you up, farmboy.

Obi touches his stomach, he's bleeding. He looks up, rage
in his eyes. He swings the shovel, but El Dueno ducks and
puts a gash in Obi's leg. Obi drops the shovel.

El Dueno swipes again, but this time Obi jumps back,
grabs El Dueno's hand and breaks his wrist. The knife
                falls to the ground.

Obi spins and kicks El Dueno ten feet. Obi charges.

El Dueno unholsters his gun but can't steady it with the
broken wrist. He squeezes the trigger and misses.

Obi increases his speed. El Dueno fires again and the
bullet RIPS into Obi's shoulder but Obi doesn't stop.

Obi jumps five feet in the air, spinning, screaming. A
size ten work boot WHIPS across the side of El Dueno's
                face. SNAP!

                Obi's feet hit the ground.

El Dueno collapses. Obi grabs the SHOVEL next to El
Dueno's head and pulls it way back. Hold on Obi,
expressionless, as he pulverizes El Dueno's skull with
                the shovel.

Jimmy CLAPS as he steps toward Obi.

                                      JIMMY
                          Your farmer killed my killer.

Obi searches the ground. He sees the 9mm and drops the
shovel in favor of the gun.

Jimmy motions for the two Thugs to stand down.

Obi levels the gun on Jimmy.

Don Rojan looks at the carnage around him.

                                      DON ROJAN
                          For God's sake, shoot him!

                                      JIMMY
You could shoot me, yes. But then you'd
be a dead man, and there's no money in
                          being dead. Ask these guys.

Jimmy stops right next to Obi and pokes at Don Ordonez's
                ribs. Don Rojan is furious.

                                      DON ROJAN
                          Kill the bastard!

                Obi holds on Jimmy.

                                      JIMMY
                                (to Rojan)
Seems like such a waste to have this man
out in the fields with the tumbaderos.
He's good with a shovel though.

                                      DON ROJAN
                          Lo disparo, Obi!

                                      JIMMY
                          Obi?
                                (beat)
You like digging in the dirt for your
                          living?

                Obi's confused.

                                      JIMMY (CONT'D)
                          Tu sabes capitalismo?

Jimmy points to El Dueno's pulverized cracked skull.

                                      JIMMY (CONT'D)
                          Good work there.

Obi glances down. Jimmy puts a hand on his shoulder.

                                      JIMMY (CONT'D)
Los Estados Unidos. You come back with
me, I pay you muchos dolares to do what
he used to do until you did that to him.

Jimmy looks down at El Dueno; a quick eulogy:

                                      JIMMY (CONT'D)
Damn. That was a mean son of a bitch you
                          killed. Ugly as sin too.

                Jimmy looks up at Obi.

                                      JIMMY (CONT'D)
So, comprende? Dirty work? Let's go.

Jimmy steps past Obi and motions for the Thugs to finish
Don Rojan. Obi hangs his head and takes a few breaths.

                                      JIMMY (CONT'D)
Vamanos, Obi. Leave the shovel here. This
is a different kind of dirty work.

Jimmy laughs at his own joke.

                                      DON ROJAN
                          Obi? Son?

Obi looks up at two MEXICAN FLAGS flying on either side
of the archway leading into the hall.

                                      DON ROJAN (O.S.) (CONT'D)
                          Obi Modelo!

                POW! - a GUNSHOT. It echoes dub-style.

                INT. MOVING CHEROKEE - NIGHT

Vittles wipes his nose. Sniffs, snorts.

                                      VITTLES
Jesus. That's how Obi came to America?

                                      ELWOOD
                          Very much like that.

                                      VITTLES
I'd rather be in Mexico surfing everyday.

                                      ELWOOD
Yeah, well he's smart and you're gay.
                          What happened to your hair?

                                      VITTLES
                          It's called Malibu Mist.

                                      ELWOOD
                          That's horrible.

                Vittles cuts up more coke.

                                      VITTLES
He started Rio Grande Bail Bonds?

                                      ELWOOD
Bingo. And now we work for his scary ass.

Elwood takes the CD case from Vittles. He leans over and
                whizzes up a line.

                                      VITTLES
Not you. You're done after tonight. I
still owe that maniac two weeks of my
                          life.

Vittles looks out his window, still thinking about the
                story.

                                      VITTLES (CONT'D)
Do you know what could happen in two
                          weeks?

Elwood goes down for another line. Something catches
Vittles' eye. It's a BLACK TRUCK.

                                      VITTLES (CONT'D)
                          Elwood.

Elwood looks up and right before The Cherokee SLAMS into
the black TRUCK every bit of SOUND is sucked up as if in
a vacuum and the screen goes awash in red and we...

                                                                 CUT TO:
